If we talk about the word "Taxila", there are two meanings of this word.
The first meaning means "Taxila" in the Pali language. It is the name of a city in northwest of Punjab, Pakistan that is a university and center of arts and academies in the past of India sinu before the Buddha,s time which has Ajarn Thiparnok teaching various arts and sciences.
The second meaning means “The center of education in science or the arts, such as Maha Sarakham, is Taxila of the Isan plateau or has been proposed for Bangkok as the world's fashion Taxila, for example. The meaning is defined by the Office of the Royal Thai Council.
If we significantly consider the keyword of the word "Taxila", the keyword that is quite pronounced is "center of science". It may be comparable to the "Institute of higher education" which is an institution that combines science and a wide range of knowledge in such institutions.
Thailand has a well-known “institution of higher education”. These institutions play an important role in the development of every area of the country whether it is the central region, the north, the east, the northeast, and the south.
In the southern border provinces which are part of the south, there are as well "Taxila" or " higher education institutions" together, two important institutions, namely Prince of Songkla University, Pattani Campus (PSU), and Princess of Narathiwat University (PWU)
In higher education or in this article to use the word "Taxila", there must be a philosophy and clear vision, since the philosophy and vision will reflect the "rationale" of the existence of Taxila and the "positive image" that wishes to occur in the Taxila’s responsible area.
Let's look at the "philosophy and vision of the two Taxilas".
“a university for innovation and society in the development of the southern border areas based on multiculturalism. It also emphasizes building academic leadership, creating graduates with academic and professional competence, and developing the university into a knowledge-based society.”
The philosophy and vision of NRU is
“A university of technology and innovation that reaches a community and as well the community can reach the university focusing on research studies of science and technology professions, health sciences, and social sciences. This focus acts as a development foundation for human resources, and communities in the three southern border provinces.”
Considering the philosophy and vision of both Taxilas, there are both similarities and differences.
The similarity of both Taxilas is the emphasis on sustainable development, which is tied to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations.
The difference is an emphasis on the diversity of sciences. PSU, Pattani Campus has more variety in the fields of sciences than PNU, but PNU will focus on in-depth knowledge of technology such as the rail system course. This rail system course is to support the logistics system by rail (railway) that will expand greatly in the southern area and southern border provinces including areas in other regions of the country.
The two Taxilas or even other higher education institutions in the southern border provinces that are not mentioned in this article have the goal of transferring knowledge to various target groups in the southern border provinces. Then, the target group will bring this knowledge to better improve the quality of life.
The knowledge that is passed on to people would have a positive effect on raising the quality of people in the southern provinces. Ultimately, the creation of human capital under the philosophy and vision of these educational institutions will efficiently and effectively improve the quality of life for people in the southern border provinces.
When people have a better quality of life, they would like their society to be more secure and safe which in turn, ultimately, public participation in securing life and the property will increase significantly.
