We have to accept that insurgency of southern border provinces is a kind of situation that generates negative power making people in southern border provinces to be discouraged and despaired. However, there is a number of persons or a group of persons that has never let themselves to be in such condition. On the other hand, they have tried to stimulate their positive power and pass on such power to other persons leading to changes. Those changes may be small or too large to be expected. It can be compared as a small drop of water dropping on water surface causing a wave that can be spread in every direction.

Let’s see some examples of some persons in southern border provinces or related persons that can be compared as “small power” whose their power can be passed on to surrounding people and society leading to changes!

Grandpa Cyclist: Creative Tourism of Southern Border Provinces

When we see the headline, “Grandpa Cyclist: Creative Tourism of Southern Border Provinces”, we may subsequently feel “stunned.”

Who is Grandpa Cyclist? The name of this Grandpa Cyclist is “Mr. Sanit Rueangsri” who is currently 80 years old. He participated in a cycling trip from “Mae Sai - Betong” with the distance over than 2,000 kilometers and the duration of 22 days. Expectation of Grandpa Sanit was to encourage local people and officers of all sectors in southern border provinces as well as to publicize tourism of the southern part. This is one of “small power” of a cool grandpa from Chiang Rai. Although he is not a local person but he is able to pass on his small power to persons who are discouraged and despaired to be encouraged that may lead to the great changes.

From Betong’s Robinhood to ASEAN Robinhood

Mr. Chaowalit Damaso, a Betong villager in Yala Province who is an archer, also known as “Betong’s Robinhood”, made reputation of Thailand after overcoming 4 competitors from ASEAN countries and India in an online archery competition, Traditional Brunei Open. He gave an interview that he hoped that new generation would pay more attention on traditional archery.

This success upgraded Chaowalit from “Betong’s Robinhood” to be “ASEAN Robinhood”. Above all, the most important thing is intention or small power of Chaowalit to make changes in archery in southern border provinces or in wider context. This is another example of “small power” of a young man from Betong in Yala Province that has been passed on to many people, especially children and juveniles, to find new opportunities that may lead to the great changes.

When a Thai Young Man from Narathiwat Overcomes the Prize in U.S.A.

After reading a news headline on becoming the champion of “Blue Canyon Phuket Championship” held at Blue Canyon Country Club in Phuket of “Pro Phet – Sadom Kaewkanchana who is only 23 years old but he could win John Catlin, a U.S. glofer who won in the first day”, how do you feel? Certainly, we will feel proud of his abilities. He is a young man who is only 23 years old and he comes from a southern border province, i.e., Narathiwat Province. If people in southern border provinces, especially children and juveniles, perceive the story of “Pro Phet”, those children and juveniles will be surely inspired or find some possibilities to obtain new opportunities in their life. This is another example of “small power” of a young man with the age of 23 years from Narathiwat Province making people find new opportunities that may lead to the great changes in the future.

These 3 cases can generate small power to some extent and they are one of a huge number of “small power” in all areas of southern border provinces or even other parts of Thailand that will inspire many persons. This inspiration will enhance motivation leading to creative changes affecting to life of people in communities, sub-districts, and provinces, or even society in all levels, especially creative changes occurred with people and societies in southern border provinces, leading to better life and more sustainable and peaceful society.
