The problem on insurgency in southern border provinces has been occurred for long period and has destroyed peace in southern border provinces that are the land of multicultural beauty over than 2 decades since the weapon robbery in 2004. Therefore, thinking and feeling of related persons, especially local people, is full of desire for peace.
However, to build anything in any society, especially reinforcing peace, it is highly necessary to gain cooperation from all sectors including government sector, private sector, public sector, and academic sector. Cooperation to drive peace in southern border provinces can be performed in various forms through various activities. One activity that is valuable for supporting and reinforcing peace in southern border provinces is public stage for providing knowledge.
During these 4 years (2015-2018), there were 67 public stages held for reinforcing peace in southern border provinces.
All of these stages, there are various issues of knowledge that can be used as the tool for reinforcing peace of southern border, for example, peace process, history, languages and culture, laws and human rights, politics and administration, world situation, community development, health and safe zones, communication, natural resources and disasters, women and children, and so on.
Public stage providing knowledge are held to provide various fields that are important for developing skills and potential of social members helping to reduce conflicts. Local people and other sectors including government sector, private sector, academic sector, and international organizations, will obtain knowledge to support peace building. Distributing knowledge as much as possible is the way to build wisdom and sustainable peace.
Lack of Integration
One distinctive challenge to provide knowledge to public in southern border provinces/Pattani is the lack of integration of knowledge to cover all dimensions of social and cultural contexts in the area.
Lack of Knowledge for Applying in the World of Reality
The lack of the aforementioned integration causes difficulties in applying obtained knowledge to reality in the context of conflicts. In many cases, people can learn but they are unable to implement such knowledge because knowledge provided to public in these areas is short-term knowledge that lacks of holistic integration.
Lack of Cooperation among Persons Providing Knowledge to Public
Operations and organization still attaches to any group of persons because different organizations are unable to adjust their attitude to solve some similar problems. Besides different operational guidelines, it also depends on sources of capital. In many cases, performance of some groups reveals that they perform operations to respond to demands of fund providers and returns leading to low quality efficiency. Simultaneously, participants of seminars also expect returns.
Difficult Presentation for Understanding (Presentation Methods)
There is no evaluation on methods of knowledge presentation whether they are able to communicate to listeners clearly, for example, in academic presentation, academicians often understand what they want to communicate but they are required to adjust communication methods for passing on their knowledge to local villagers for proper understanding, etc.
Data Collection, Public Knowledge organization, and Lack of Public Relations
Besides 67 outstanding public stages for providing knowledge, there are also other stages for providing knowledge to public that are held each year. However, there is no central organization to store data on these stages organization.
Moreover, there is no creative public relations of these activity photos to public. Therefore, image of southern border provinces perceived by Thai society has been presented in the dimension of insurgency with no peace.
These are challenges of “Public Stages for Providing Knowledge to Reinforce Peace in Southern Border Province” that must be solved.
In order to solve the above challenges, these two recommending solutions are proposed as follows:
1) Recruit persons with knowledge and experiences on public stage organization to control activities as demanded
2) Invite lecturers with knowledge on problems and ability to provide suggestions and solutions to participate in public stages for solving problems and answering questions without any conflict.
